What is branding?

Is branding just a creative way to name of a product
or company? Or maybe it is a way to relay a brand
message using print or television advertising.
NO! Those views of branding are from a time when far
fewer media vehicles and less competition in most
product categories and vertical markets.
Today your brand is everything! A brand is the sum
of every image in every mind that has been exposed
to it. Thanks to technology and the Internet there
are more media vehicles now than ever before and the
list grows daily. People communicate more than ever
through text messaging, blogs, instant messaging,
email, and phone and some still send snail mail. The
biggest difference with the Internet medium is that
it is interactive. With print and television the message
sender is in control, but with the Internet the message
recipient is in control. The user wants the Internet
to be place to exchange information.
The key is to make sure the Internet works with the
brand and not against it.
